Replika: is it free, does it allow NSFW, and what does it cost?
Replika is one of the longest-running AI companion apps (since 2017). You create and customize a single AI companion ("Rep") with a 3D avatar and chat by text, voice calls or video, with the companion remembering details about your life. It is aimed at adults looking for an ongoing friend, partner or supportive presence, with paid tiers unlocking romance, calls and advanced memory.

Is Replika free?
Text chat with your Replika and basic avatar customization are free. Relationship statuses beyond 'Friend', voice calls, premium activities, selfies and image generation require Pro or higher. No free trial of paid tiers is offered. The ToS says free use may be denied at Replika's discretion.
Does Replika allow NSFW?
Adults only (18+ per ToS). Setting the relationship status to 'Romantic Partner' and receiving unblurred messages and romantic selfies requires a paid Replika Pro subscription; free users are limited to the 'Friend' status. Replika's help center does not document an explicit-content mode or toggle, and the ToS prohibits roleplaying as real, identifiable people without consent.

Replika does not publish prices on its website; its help center says prices are shown on the in-app subscription screens and in the app store. The US App Store lists these in-app purchases without tier names attached: MONTHLY $7.99, Monthly $14.99, YEARLY $49.99, Annual $49.99, Annual $69.99, Replika Platinum $89.99, plus gem packs from $0.99 to $19.99. Because the store does not map each price to Pro/Ultra/Platinum, per-tier prices are left unassigned. Subscriptions are managed and cancelled only through the store where they were bought; no refunds for partial periods. Prices checked 2026-10-20.

Things to know
Italy's data protection authority (Garante) ordered Replika blocked in Italy in February 2023, citing the absence of age-verification mechanisms. On 10 April 2025 it fined Luka, Inc. EUR 5 million for GDPR breaches, including failing to identify a legal basis for processing and inadequate privacy notices, and said it may separately examine the lawfulness of processing across the AI model's lifecycle (as published by the European Data Protection Board). Store age ratings are inconsistent with the 18+ ToS: the US App Store lists 18+, while Google Play shows a 'Teen' rating. Per Replika's own docs, cancellations are handled only through the original app store and partial periods are not refunded.
