Chub AI: is it free, does it allow NSFW, and what does it cost?
Chub AI (also called CharHub) is a roleplay chat site built around a large library of user-made character cards, lorebooks and 'stages' that anyone can browse, create and share. You can chat using Chub's own hosted models or connect your own API key or local model, which makes it popular with hobbyists who like to tinker with prompts and settings. It is aimed at adults.

Is Chub AI free?
Chub's subscription page says new users are regularly sent one-time free trial credits worth 'a few dozen messages' on Chub's hosted models. Browsing and creating characters is free, and you can chat without a subscription by connecting your own API key (OpenAI, Anthropic, OpenRouter, etc.) or a self-hosted Kobold/Ooba backend.
Does Chub AI allow NSFW?
Adult content is permitted for users 18+. Account settings include an NSFW toggle ('Show SFW Only' / 'Show NSFW'), a separate NSFL toggle for extreme content categories, and an option to blur NSFW images. The site says NSFL content is not shown in its iOS app regardless of setting. The ToS bans any content sexualizing anyone who is or appears to be under 18, and bans illegal content.

A yearly option is offered at '16% off'; the exact yearly price appears only after login. Chub says web payments are crypto-only; on iPhone you pay through Apple. 'Unlimited' is for one person: simultaneous requests are rejected and key sharing is restricted. No refunds unless explicitly granted; cancelling stops the next charge and access ends at the end of the period. Prices checked 2026-10-20.
