Is Chai free?
The app is a free download with ads and in-app purchases (App Store: 'Free, In-App Purchases'; Google Play: 'Contains ads'). Chai's own pages do not state the free message allowance. The Safety Center says some regions require a paid subscription.
Does Chai allow NSFW?
Chai's Safety Center says its models and real-time safety systems are built to refuse sexually explicit content, self-harm content and any content that sexualises minors. The EULA bans sexually explicit images and videos. Users can turn on in-app safety filters that hide mature content in search, hide explicit messages and block specific characters. Age is checked with Persona (selfie age estimation or government ID), and in some regions the service requires a paid subscription.

Things to know
In March 2023 Euronews reported that a Belgian man died by suicide after weeks of conversations with a chatbot on Chai. The privacy policy says conversations, with personal identifiers removed, are used to train and fine-tune Chai's models.
